What is a Chiller?

Aquariums are delicate ecosystems, responding to environmental conditions on a constant basis. Simulating oceanic reefs or tropical pools requires careful temperature regulation. And while a heater will keep your aquarium safe most of the year, what about during hot summer months?

The answer is: a chiller. Just like a window Air Conditioner, Chillers use chemical refrigerants, compressors, and heat transfer devices to lower the temperature of your aquarium's water. The larger your aquarium, the larger the chiller you'll need.

Aquariums For You offers a line of chillers that come with keypads. They're simple to program, turning on only when your aquarium needs cooling. And with state of the art compressors and pumps, these chillers are quieter and more robust than ever.

Chiller Standard Features
Parameter Definitions

  • Stainless steel components
  • Leak resistant brazed joints
  • Noise reducing rubber footings
  • Copeland high-efficiency compressor
  • Powder coated aluminum cover
  • Refrigerant R134A
  • Digital keypad/controller

  • Chiller Output: Amount of energy, in BTU, the chiller can absorb from aquarium water
  • Water Flow: Minimum and maximum water flow through chiller in Gallons per Minute. The range of operation ensures that the chiller regulates temperature efficiently, balancing motor power, chiller power, and heat transfer rates.
  • Pump Power: Rating of the amount of work output by the pump used to circulate water through the chiller
  • Current Drawn: Current drawn by the chiller at 115V. As electricity is sold by kilowatt-hours, knowing the voltage, current, and running time will allow the calculation of operating cost
