What is a Wet/Dry Filter?

Wet Dry filters (aka Drip Filters or Bio Towers) are aerobic filters. Water from the aquarium is dripped over Bio Balls, which are optimally designed to provide surface area and oxygen for biotics. Microbes filter the passing water, which is collected and reintroduced to the aquarium. Wet Dry filtration is best if used in conjunction with a prefilter or protein skimmer to keep large particulates out of the system.

Advanced Wet Dry filters include an additional skimmer that filters water before it gets to the bio-material. A water gate allows manual adjustment of the skimmer's height, ensuring an optimal degree of water treatment before it is reintroduced to the aquarium.
